Why?   This is the tough bit …

The incidence of suicide in the UK is as high as it has ever been. Regrettably for Barrow-in-Furness and the surrounding area, it is a particularly significant issue. It knows no social, cultural or ethnic boundaries. It is estimated that every loss of life to suicide can affect over 130 people. This means that, in our community of Barrow, many, many lives have been impacted by what is often a life-changing and isolating event, with a long-term impact on one’s wellbeing that can include an increase in ‘risk taking’ behaviours and low mood.

How? - The day is designed to highlight to everyone that Barrow has its challenges, but it is also a very supportive community, with many organisations available for those of us having a tough time. The event itself is for those aged 18+, but information will be available for those supporting or working with young people and families who are bereaved.

The day is in two parts:

The morning is all about bringing people together to find out more about what’s available, meet local organisations, and hear from Bev and Andy how the loss of loved ones has altered their lives irrevocably, but also hear their messages of hope.

The afternoon is for those of us who are suicide bereaved. We invite you to share a light lunch with us and, in a closed group with Bev Bishop, you can simply listen or contribute as she uses creative ways to think about loss, and the journey to living one’s best life.

Bev Bishop’s Finding Magic has been bringing people together around bereavement for several years.
